Fogo is one of the main tourist attraction on the isles. As all islands of Cape Verde are of volcanic origin it is very interesting to understand their very different age and from that very different topography and vegetation.
The island Fogo is more or less one big vulcan with the characteristic shape as a vulcan island. The Vulcan is very active having its most recent eruption in 1995.
The dark lava forms a moon landscape in the National park of Fogo that is beautiful and attractive as well as harsh and deserted. Fresh hardened lava can easily be seen when you arrive to the park and drive to the small village up there. They serve nice food and you should enjoy the special wine made among the lava rocks, it is delicious.
I hope to come back to this extraordinary part of Cape Verde Islands and have more time to research the natural beauty of the landscape by hiking around the mountains.
