This model of the Panasonic Lumix seems perfect. I have another Lumix and I trulylove it…the picture quality was tops and the ease of use made it so great for my most recent tropical vacation.

Thanks Robert – Yes, the Nikonos was a very nice underwater camera. I still have one in my drawer but I do not use it anymore.

Today we have a choice of many alternative watertight digital cameras, that do well in the water as well as on the beach.

Hi Soren,
I like your points on how the best beach camera should look like and I think your suggestion with the New LUMIX TS3 as “Waterproof, Shockproof, Freezeproof, Dustproof, and Adds Full-HD Video Recording, a New 3D Photo Mode & Easy Facebook and YouTube Uploads” sounds very promising.

As I like underwater photography I have in many years used the film camera from Nikon the Nikonos V. It is still working and I would just add that such a rugged underwater camera is also suitable for beach photography.

The sad thing is that this famous Nikonos underwater camera will not be developed into a modern digital camera, but if any of your readers are interested in this ‘old stuff’ you might like to read about the Nikonos underwater camera family at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikonos

Iceland is definitely worth the trip and only about 4 hours from the U.S. We stayed in Frankfurt last night and then flew to Iceland today.Our flight was delayed a few hours so we got in late and just checked into our hotel. We have been traveling by train since we first arrived in Amsterdam and were thankful we prebooked all of our train tickets with the recent travel crisis over the volcanic ash from Iceland.

Great article on Lumix. I’ve been searching for just the camera with the ability to withstand the sand and seawater.
